Imhotep (Joseph) Story of Famine in Egypt from Bible Study Tour

South of Cairo lies the area of Saqqara. It is here in this area Imhotep (Joseph) became so prominent. In honor of Joseph the Imhotep Museum was opened in 2006. Joseph is credited with designing and building the first pyramid in Egypt for King Zoser (Djoser) called the Step Pyramid. It is here near the Step Pyramid where the Egyptians have uncovered huge grain shafts of spectacular design. Genesis 41:25 “And Joseph said unto Pharaoh, The dream of Pharaoh is one: God hath shewed Pharaoh what he is about to do.” Genesis 41:35 “And let them gather all the food of those good years that come, and lay up corn under the hand of Pharaoh, and let them keep food in the cities.”

There was also a tomb found near Saqqara with a Hebrew statue that was for a great servant of the Pharaoh: Genesis 50:26 “So Joseph died, being an hundred and ten years old: and they embalmed him, and he was put in a coffin in Egypt.” Exodus 13:19 “And Moses took the bones of Joseph with him: for he had straitly sworn the children of Israel, saying, God will surely visit you; and ye shall carry up my bones away hence with you.”

The above picture is of an amazing inscription near Aswan that details the miracle of the 7 years of plenty and the 7 years of famine in Egypt. It tells the story of King Djoser’s dream and his vizier, Imhotep’s miraculous interpretation that saved the nation. Join our Christian travel group to Egypt in 2016.
