Ladies Relaxing at Elim Mount Sinai in Arabia Living Passages

Climbing Mount Sinai FAQs - Jabal al-Lawz & Maqla

Before the group climbs the mountain, we will each have become very familiar with Moses Altar where he received The Covenant, Aaron’s Altar to the Golden Calf, and other nearby critical locations. Climbing the mountain is not required to see the amazing evidence of the Exodus and Moses' time there. In fact, there are no archaeological highlights on the mountain, those are all located at the base.

Mount Sinai consists of 3 peaks.

  1. Jabal Maqla (the Burnt Mountain)
  2. Jabal al-Lawz (the Mountain of Almonds)
  3. The peak where Trojena of NEOM is located.

When you camp at night, you will clearly face Lawz and Maqla; Elijah’s Cave will be directly in front of you on Maqla, the Plateau of the Seventy Elders is on Lawz.

What Does Camping at Mt Sinai Look Like?
The evenings will get down to low 30’s at night. However, the provided sleeping bags are very adequate. You do not need to bring bedding but should bring heavy wool socks and a warm wool hat to sleep in, gloves may be helpful as well. Morning and evening, there will be a fire available for us as well as full length Arabian coats. The temperatures rise very quickly when the sun rises. Your Saudi Arabia transportation will be Four Runners, you will not have a lot of space, please choose what you bring wisely. Layers and wool are helpful for the temperature swings. You will have a mobile/portable bathroom with a shower and toilets, as well as a mobile/portable generator for you to charge your equipment. Each camper/couple will have a tent with lamp, carpets, pillow, comfy cot and bedding. During the day it is usually around 65-78, but far cooler at night. If you choose to camp, but not climb, you will be with your Living Passages representative and local guides for the morning. Then be at camp to greet the climbers as they return from the mountain. A large lunch will be served when everyone returns.
