Fact or Fiction? Examining Evidence of Noah’s Flood

Noah’s Famous Flood Story Questioned

The story of Noah’s Ark and the Great Flood is one of the most famous from the Bible. Next to Creation, the Flood of Noah’s day is the greatest single geological event in the history of our Earth. Nothing has so transformed the earth geologically than this cataclysmic event.  There are repeated references to the Flood account in numerous books within the Old Testament. Even Jesus and the writers of the New Testament allude to Noah and the flood as true historical events.

And it came to pass in the six hundredth and first year, in the first , the first of the month, the waters were dried up from off the earth: and Noah removed the covering of the ark, and looked, and, behold, the face of the ground was dry. And in the second month, on the seven and twentieth day of the month, was the earth dried. And God spake unto Noah, saying, Bring forth with thee every living thing that with thee, of all flesh, of fowl, and of cattle, and of every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth; that they may breed abundantly in the earth, and be fruitful, and multiply upon the earth. — Genesis 8:13-17

What are the evidences for a worldwide flood some 5000 years ago? Is it even logical? Ironically, this most familiar and loved Bible story is also one of the most criticized accounts in history.  Although in previous years, scientists almost uniformly accepted the Biblical account of the flood, and attributed many of the earth’s features to its effect, that is not the case today. The questions persist, even within the Christian community.

Waterberg Savannah Biosphere Reserve

This reserve covers an area of some 15,000 square kilometers in the north Limpopo province. It was designated a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO in 2001. It is considered not just one of the country’s foremost conservation projects, but also an attractive wildlife viewing destination.

The Waterberg lies on an intercontinental divergence zone, which provides for a wider variety of flora and fauna than elsewhere in Africa. The diverse topography of the reserve sustains over 40 species of game. For those passionate about birds, there are well over 300 species of resident and migrant birds.

The first private game reserve in the country to obtain the highly endangered black rhino, the Lalapala Reserve was established in 1981 by well-known South African conservationist, Clive Walker. Lalapala has become not just one of the leading private rhino sanctuaries, but also one of the foremost eco-projects in South Africa. It even has its own school, which introduces some 3,000 children a year, from all over the country, to the principles and practice of conservation.

The Waterberg offers the additional excitement of a good selection of adventure activities, including bush hiking trails, mountain biking, cattle mustering, and some of the finest off-the-beaten-track in Africa.
