Where The Exodus Story Begins - Egypt

Our Egypt tours and Nile river cruises explore the Exodus account and visit the most significant and authentic Christian sites in Egypt from a Biblical and historical perspective. From the palaces of Pharaoh to the canals and storehouses of Joseph, from the tombs of the Exodus to the footsteps of the Hebrews in Goshen and Succoth, every stop is grounded in Biblical truth and historical evidence.

Although Egypt has just recently begun to receive recognition for its Biblical evidence, Living Passages has been leading Bible tours in Egypt for over a decade and visiting places that mainstream tours do not. If you love Biblical archaeology, you won't want to miss these tours!

On this journey, travelers will:

  • Encounter the newly revealed statue of Jochebed, Moses' birth mother, at the new Grand Museum.
  • Stand at the Nile River, where Moses was pulled out of a basket by Queen Hatshepsut.
  • Explore Luxor and Karnak, including the burial tomb Moses prepared before he knew God’s plan to lead Israel out.
  • Visit Queen Hatshepsut’s temple, where Moses was raised as her adopted son.
  • See Hatshepsut's statue at the National Museum of Cairo.
  • Walk the streets of ancient Memphis and Sakkara, where Joseph’s wisdom preserved Egypt and Israel during famine.
  • Witness the evidence at Avaris and Succoth, where the Hebrew people lived, suffered, and began their exodus.
  • Meet the mummies of Pharaohs, face to face, housed at the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization. See Amenhotep the II, the Pharaoh of the Exodus, with evidence of boils from the plague.

Also at Karnak, we will see the Kiosk of Taharqa, named Biblically in 2 Kings 19:9 and in Isaiah 37:9. We will also see the fantastic reliefs of Seti the1st’s battles in Biblical Canaan and Syria. There is a specific relief that states “the Shashu have no regard for the laws of his palace.” This is referring to the Semitic peoples of which Jacob’s family was identified.

Breakfast aboard the ship and then depart for The Valley of the Kings. We will see the treasures of the tombs, including King Tut’s tomb and several other important tombs. This afternoon we visit Ramesseum, Medinet Hab, and also see the relief of Amenhotep II in a striking scene that some scholars claim was from his death at the Red Sea. Later this afternoon, we spend time at Luxor Temple. Depart Luxor at 6:30 PM for Cairo. Dinner.

Day 7: Cairo, Giza, Sphinx, Egyptian Museum with King Tut’s Exhibit and Mummy Room
This morning we visit the Giza Plateau, the Sphinx, and its Dream Stele. You will even have time to ride a camel! We will lunch together and then visit the Egyptian Museum, see its Mummy Room and King Tut exhibit, Tanis Exhibit from Shoshenq II, etc. Afterward, we will walk through the Khan el Khalil Bazaar. Dinner at the hotel.

Day 8: Biblical Lands of Goshen, Zoan, Tanis, Ramses, Avaris
Today we will travel to the area of Egypt that was the focus of Moses’ Psalms 78:12 and 43. We will drive north of Cairo and visit Zoan, also known as Tanis. This is where Moses would have performed the miracles of God that freed God’s children. Biblically, this city in Egypt in the Nile Delta is discussed in Numbers 13:22. It says that it was built seven years after Israel’s Hebron was built. Hebron is the oldest Jewish community in the world. Psalm 78:12,43 identifies the "field of Zoan" as the location at which Moses performed miracles before Pharaoh to persuade him to release Israel from his service. When we are at the Egyptian Museum, the fascinating discoveries that were made in 1939 will be shown to you. Afterward, we will also visit the Biblical cities of Ramses and Avaris. You will learn the story of how the German archeologist Bietek was able to uncover another layer that has the fingerprints of Yahweh’s children underneath. We will have lunch at a local restaurant, returning to Cairo in time for dinner near the airport and then your 8:00 PM flight to the Red Sea.

Day 9:  Sharm el-Sheikh, Land Bridge Crossing Site, Red Sea
A day to sleep in! Wake up on the spectacular Red Sea. Enjoy a lush buffet breakfast and time to regroup on all you have seen. If you are a snorkeler, this morning you can sign up for a snorkel trip on the Red Sea, or you can extend your time here and do a full dive. At 2:00 PM, you will be picked up and taken to the site where you can see the land bridge that the Hebrew children may have walked on between Egypt and Midian during the miracle where God used Moses to part the Red Sea. Afterward, you will be able to walk around the village of Sharm el-Sheikh before returning to the hotel for an early dinner.

Day 10:  St. Catherine’s Monastery, Sinai Peninsula
Wake this morning, where you will be met and transported across the desert. The drive is roughly 3 hours. On arrival, there are 750 steps to the monastery. The goal for many is to see the sunrise from the monastery. If you wish to leave later in the morning and bypass sunrise, that is also an option. In addition, if you have trouble walking, there are methods of transportation to get you to within about 400 feet of the monastery itself. This monastery is rich in precious Biblical and extra-Biblical manuscripts that date back to the 6th century. It is known as one of the world’s best libraries for manuscripts. The site is considered the “traditional” site where Moses spoke with God from a burning bush. Only The Lord Himself can tell us exactly which mountain but it has been identified by Helena, Constantine’s mother at the time that the other key sites were named, including but not limited to the Church or Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem. After lunch and a private time of worship and quiet, we return the 3 hours back to Cairo.

Day 11:  Transfer to the airport
Most flights depart in the very early hours. You will be met at your hotel and transferred back to the Cairo airport for your departure.
